Project Description
The Flamanville EPR is the first nuclear power station to be built in France in the past 15 years and the first third-generation-type plant. The nuclear plant will have a net electricity output of 1 650 MWe.

Capital Expenditure
The project has been beset by cost increases. In October 2019, EDF said the necessary repairs to the reactor's main secondary system penetration welds would further increase the cost of building the Flamanville EPR, from an estimated €10.5-billion to €12.4-billion.

Latest Developments
The Flamanville 3 reactor reached 100% nuclear thermal power on December 14, 2025, and generated 1 669 MW of gross electrical power.  

The ramp-up to 100% nuclear thermal power follows the approval by the French nuclear safety and radiation protection authority, or ASNR, on December 12, 2025, to go beyond the 80% threshold.  

Reaching the 100% mark for the first time allows for the testing of equipment at full power, the taking of measurements and verifying that everything is functioning properly. Over the coming weeks, and as part of the startup programme, the power of the reactor will vary to continue testing at different power levels and an operation will be conducted on an internal electrical substation.
